Luka Modric returned to the Croatia midfield for a meeting with his Real Madrid teammate, Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo, in their Euro 2016 last 16 clash in Lens on Saturday.

Modric missed Croatia’s surprise 2-1 win over Spain on Tuesday due to a groin problem, but was passed fit to return along with Juventus striker Mario Mandzukic.

Domagoj Vida, Ivan Strinic and Marcelo Brozovic also come back into the Croatian side after being rested against Spain.

Ronaldo spearheads a much-changed Portugal after they were the only team to make the knockout stage having not won any of their three group games.

Raphael Guerreiro, Jose Fonte and Cedric Soares come into the defence, whilst Adrien Silva replaces Joao Moutinho in midfield.

After becoming the first player to score in four separate Euros to rescue Portugal from an early exit in a thrilling 3-3 draw with Hungary on Wednesday, Ronaldo is aiming for another goalscoring record.

The three-time World Player of the Year is one goal away from matching Michel Platini’s record mark of nine in European championship finals.
