NASS seeks support for establishment of NEDCOM

MAIDUGURI—The National Assembly yesterday solicited the support of governors and stakeholders for the establishment of North-East Development Commission (NEDCOM), for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the affected sub-region, before the return of 2.8 million Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to their communities.

The call was made in Maiduguri by Mohammed Monguno, representing Monguno/Marte/Nganzai federal constituency; when he paid a courtesy visit to Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno state at the Government House, Maiduguri.

He said the purpose of establishing NEDCOM was against the backdrop of myriads of problems caused by Boko Haram insurgency that lasted for over six years in the country.

Responding, Governor Shettima said if the legislators could pass the NEDCOM bill, they would have achieved more than 50 percent of what the people had elected them to do at the National Assembly.
