Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Tunji Odeyemi, yesterday said the tenure of Ekiti State governor,  Segun Oni, is an issue that could  only be resolved by the court of law.

Odeyemi, spoke at a forum organised by members of the Correspondents Chapel, Nigeria Union of Journalists in Ado Ekiti yesterday.

The Speaker  noted that it was the opinion of some people that the four year- tenure of   a governor  commences immediately the governor was sworn in, adding that some people hold a contrary view  on the premise that the 2009  gubernatorial  re-run election took place  in  10  out of the 16 councils of the state.

He also noted  that the mandate given to Oni by the remaining 6 councils  where there was no election re-run ends in 2011 , as they voted him for a four year- tenure in 2007   general elections. “But for me, l believe in the rule of law. When it is time, the court would be able to say whether Oni’s tenure would end in 2011 or 2013,”he said.

On the establishment  and funding of three state owned universities, the Speaker  said the state government could successfully run 5  or 6   universities, if it sets its priority on education.
