Kaduna—Governor Mukhtar Yero of Kaduna State, yesterday, pledged to raise the salaries of district heads in the state to enhance their performance.

The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, learnt that the monthly salary of a district head is about N14,000 which is below the national minimum wage.

Yero made the pledge when he paid a courtesy visit on the Emir of Birnin Gwari, Malam Zubairu Jubril, in continuation of his election campaign ahead of the general election.

He said that as important pillars of leadership at the community level, the district heads deserved to have a living wage that would encourage them in their work.

The governor acknowledged the security problems the area was facing and assured that government would continue to protect the lives and properties of all people living in the state.

NAN reports that Birnin Gwari Local Government Area has for years contended with attacks by criminal gangs, which has led to daily loss of lives and properties.

Yero assured the residents that the security situation would be better in the coming years if he was elected as governor in the February 28 election.

He thanked the Emirate Council for its invaluable support to the administration, and urged it to sensitise the people on the need for peaceful elections.
