Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, NSC, Hassan Bello, Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, Habib Abdullahi, Rector of the Maritime Academy of Nigeria, MAN, Oron, Joshua Okpo, and Managing Director of Starsz Investment Company Limited, Greg Ogbeifun, have been nominated for the annual Maritime Industry Merit Awards (MIMA).
Organisers of the awards, Maritime Media Ltd, MML, publishers of Shipping World Magazine, noted that its is aimed at recognising and rewarding the contribution of operators in the industry.
MML Chief Exe. Officer, Asu Beks, in a statement made available to Vanguard, called on stakeholders in the industry and the general public to vote for their Maritime man of the year.
Bello’s nomination follows the Council’s latest status as Port Economic Regulator under the NSC’s bosses administration which has taken centre-stage to become the rallying point for Nigerian Shippers who ordinarily have been at the mercy of shipping lines and terminal operators.
Joshua, Rector, Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron, who is describe as unassuming gentleman and astute administrator has been nominated for his prudent administration of funds allocated to the Academy; and his genuine commitment to the transformation of the Academy from a glorified secondary school to a world-class maritime training institution.

The Managing Director of NPA, NPA, Habib Abdullahi, is nominated for initiating several far-reaching reforms in at the Ports Authority which majorly centered on the introduction of electronic platforms to increase efficiency, eliminate human interface and by extension and increase in cargo throughput and revenue generated.
Chief Executive Officer, Starsz Investment Company Limited, on his part is nominated as the owner of Nigeria’s first indigenously operated shipyard facility has continuously set the pace for dry dock services among other vessel maintenance activities in the West and Central Africa region.
