UYO— Persons that engage in the abduction of children in Akwa-Ibom State will henceforth face death penalty under the state’s Child’s Rights and Anti-Terrorism Act.

Governor Godswill Akpabio made the disclosure in Uyo, at the 50th birthday celebration of his Commissioner for Special Duties, Mr. Emmanuel Enoidem, noting that 25 persons arrested for alleged abduction of children by security agents in the state were already facing trial and would face the full weight of the law if found culpable.

Governor Akpabio added that 30 kidnapped children from the state and the neighbouring states had been rescued from their abductors.

According to him, the parents of the children went through trauma while awaiting the return of their children.

He called on the people of the state to report suspicious movements to security agencies and to always be security conscious, adding that five teams of security agencies were currently carrying out investigations to check the trend of child theft in the state.
