YOLA: Outgoing Vice-Chancellor of Modibbo Adama University of Technology (MAUTECH), Yola, Professor Usman Bashir has revealed that the university presently can boast of 53 professors, against 30 professors when he took the mantle of leadership in 2009.
Bashir, who spoke at a press conference to give a run down of his administration stated that he feels satisfied with his scorecard while at the helm of affairs of the university.
According to him, the university management, under his leadership also mapped out infrastructural development in the school through friends of the institution, the Federal Government and grants from across the world as a specialized institution in technology.
He said he has remained fulfilled because the university under his headship was able to bring about human development as a number of
academic and non-academic staff that underwent courses in Nigeria and overseas which have improved their efficiency and effectiveness.
Bashir lauded the cooperation of the university community and support accorded him throughout his five year tenure without which he could not have recorded such achievements.
Bashir also said that he felt fulfilled that it was during his tenure that a number of programmes in the institution were accredited by the National Universities Commission, NUC, as well as departmental accreditations by professional bodies.
The accreditations by NUC and professional bodies had given applicants seeking admission into the university to have confidence in pursuing such programmes, as against when the programmes were not accredited.
Commenting on the selection of Professor Kyari Mohammed as his successor, Bashir said that although his successor is a professor of History, he has been head of departments and dean of some
schools of the same institution, for close to 25 years.
He appealed for further cooperation and support for his successor.
