AWKA — THE government of Anambra State is not anti-labour and would continue to do everything posible to give workers a sense of belonging, Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Mr. Oseloka Obaze, has said.
Obaze, who represented Governor Peter Obi at Workers’ Day rally in Awka, described as disconcerting, a situation where some members of organised labour showed clear disregard for courtesy and due process to government leadership.
Obaze said: “Labour creates wealth and wealth sustains the nation. We salute and honour all workers in our state, our nation and indeed, worldwide.
“Acceptably, government and labour may not have a perfect relationship, but it is a working and cordial relationship, which underlines the symbiotic relations.
“Nonetheless, there are clear obligations on the part of government and on the part of labour. Both sides must do their parts, thus ensuring cooperation and sustaining the bond of performance between them. This government is not anti-labour.
”Addressing the multi-dimensional challenges we face requires a studied and evolving process, for the responses to be concrete and sustainable.
“Accordingly, the Anambra State government is paying the prescribed minimum wage and has made N70 million available for the recapitalisation of the workers.”
