Maple Leaf Early Years Foundation has successfully organised a three-day training workshop aimed at strengthening the skills and knowledge of professionals in Early Childhood Development (ECD) education across the six Areas Councils of Abuja, Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The capacity-building programme brought together teachers, caregivers, and stakeholders in the early childhood education sector, equipping them with practical skills, innovative teaching strategies, and improved approaches to enhance the quality of learning and care provided to young children.

The workshop also provided a platform for educators from different LGAs to exchange ideas, share experiences, and strengthen their commitment towards improving early childhood education standards across the FCT.

Speaking at the event, the Director, Primary School Services, FCT, Mohamed Jubril Malami, expressed his excitement over the training programme, describing it as a valuable initiative that would positively impact teachers and improve the quality of education at the ECD level.

He called on the government to prioritise the recruitment of more teachers at the Early Childhood Development level to meet the growing needs of young learners.

He appreciated the sponsors, Victoria and Kate Foundation, for supporting the initiative and commended Maple Leaf Early Years Foundation for consistently championing earl childhood education.

Malami further expressed hope for more collaborations and additional training opportunities that would continue to build the capacity of teachers in the subsector.

In her remarks, the facilitator, Ifedinma Nwigwe, emphasised the importance of investing in the early years of a child’s development, noting that quality early childhood education provides the foundation for lifelong learning and overall child development.

She said the initiative by Maple Leaf Early Years Foundation was in furtherance to its commitment to supporting educators, strengthening professional capacity, and promoting better standards in Early Childhood Development education across Abuja and beyond.

Speaking, the Assistant Director, Early Childhood Education Desk Officer, Mrs. Kokori Amina, commended the training, describing it as relevant to the ECD curriculum.

She lauded the organisers and sponsors, while calling for more capacity-building programmes for teachers to improve early childhood educationne of the participants, Habibat Abdusalam, who came from L.E.A Bwari, appreciated Maple Leaf Early Years Foundation for the opportunity and pledged to share the knowledge gained with other teachers in her school.

The training was facilitated by Ifedinma Nwigwe, who led participants through key areas including child development, effective teaching techniques, classroom management, and best practices for creating a safe and engaging learning environment for children.
