ABUJA: Stakeholders in Okeigbo, Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, have demanded a new representative for the Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo/Odigbo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections, citing years of poor representation and inadequate development.

Their position was contained in a statement issued on their behalf on Thursday in Abuja by Fayemisi Tosin, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress APC, who said growing dissatisfaction among residents has intensified demands for a lawmaker capable of attracting federal projects, creating opportunities and giving the constituency a stronger voice in the National Assembly.

Tosin said many constituents who had high expectations when Hon. Festus Adefiranye assumed office now believe the anticipated dividends of democracy have not been delivered, adding that the constituency continues to grapple with poor infrastructure, limited federal presence, youth unemployment and the absence of impactful constituency projects.

He identified the deteriorating Okeigbo-Ifetedo Bridge, which links Ondo and Osun states, as a major concern, noting that its condition continues to affect farmers, traders, students and commuters. He also described the School for Persons with Disabilities in Okeigbo as neglected and in urgent need of rehabilitation.

Tosin further alleged several youths who travelled to Abuja after being promised federal jobs are yet to receive appointment letters, while many qualified indigenes remain excluded from federal and state employment opportunities.

He insisted that electoral support should be based on performance, accessibility and tangible development, stressing that many residents are unwilling to back another term for the incumbent without visible improvements.

The stakeholders also declared their support for Simisola Fajemirokun-Ajayi, who mounted a strong campaign during the APC House of Representatives primary for the constituency, and urged the party’s national leadership to recognise her as the rightful candidate and upload her name to the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC portal.
