NDC stakeholders seek clarification over Eti-Osa Assembly candidate nomination

By Joseph Erunke

A group of stakeholders within the Nigeria Democratic Congress ,NDC, has called on the party leadership to provide clarification regarding the nomination of its candidate for the Eti-Osa Constituency I seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly ahead of the forthcoming elections.

The appeal was contained in a statement issued by Abdullahi Yusuf Demola, Media Director for Concerned Stakeholders and Supporters of Hon. John Ademola Akano.

According to the group, Akano participated in the party’s primary election held on May 30 and emerged as the preferred candidate for the constituency. However, the stakeholders said they later observed that another party member, Mr. Rotimi Obasanjo, was listed as the candidate for the seat.

The group expressed concern over the development and urged the party leadership at both the state and national levels to provide details on the process that led to the nomination.

They noted that Akano had engaged party officials in a bid to seek clarification and understand the circumstances surrounding the change, while expressing confidence that the party’s internal mechanisms would address the issue.

The stakeholders also called for transparency in the handling of the matter, stressing the importance of upholding the principles of internal democracy and ensuring that party members remain confident in the nomination process.

They appealed to the leadership of the NDC to review concerns raised by party members and take appropriate steps to strengthen trust and unity within the party.

The group further encouraged relevant electoral stakeholders to continue promoting transparency and fairness in the democratic process.

As of the time of filing this report, there had been no official statement from the NDC leadership on the issue.
