Engr. Olayinka Alade, Managing Director and CEO of G & D Buildings and Engineering Limited, has called for innovation-driven engineering as a catalyst for Africa’s development.

Speaking on the company’s vision and the continent’s infrastructure challenges, Alade said Africa offers immense opportunities in construction, power, infrastructure, and technology. He emphasized that indigenous professionals who combine global standards with creativity, resilience, and strong ethics are essential to the continent’s progress.

Alade reflected on his experience working with expatriates in Nigeria’s engineering, construction, power, and oil and gas sectors, saying it gave him insights into international best practices and the role of innovation in delivering complex projects efficiently.

He explained that G & D started in 2018 as G & D Realtors Limited, focusing on property development. Engagement with clients revealed that real estate success depended heavily on construction quality, engineering precision, and reliable infrastructure.

“This taught us that building properties is not enough. Strong engineering systems, innovative solutions, and sustainable infrastructure are critical to lasting impact,” Alade said.

In 2019, G & D expanded into full-scale construction, civil engineering, and infrastructure development. The company invested in young, dynamic professionals across architecture, surveying, building, civil engineering, and energy, while prioritizing continuous professional growth and exposure to innovative techniques.

Alade said the company now focuses on designing sustainable systems that support communities and long-term economic growth.

“We do not just construct buildings. We integrate innovative engineering solutions that enhance efficiency, durability, and performance,” he added.

To strengthen this approach, Alade introduced the G & D Consortium, a structure that integrates construction, engineering, energy, oil and gas, maritime, and hospitality under one strategy. He said this model allows the organization to scale impact and deliver comprehensive solutions across sectors.

With a background in Applied Physics with Electronics and Electrical Systems, Alade believes engineering should extend beyond technical structures to address societal challenges.

“Engineering is a tool for innovation. When combined with resilience and commitment, it becomes a powerful force for building the future and driving Africa’s development,” he said.

Alade concluded that Africa’s engineering future will be shaped by professionals who are creative, diligent, and committed to applying innovative solutions to the continent’s infrastructure and industrial challenges.
