The Deputy Chairman of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), Enugu State Chapter, and Executive Chairman of Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area, Hon. Ugo-Ferdinand Ukwueze, has commended the peaceful conduct of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ward, local government and state congresses across Enugu State.

Ukwueze said the successful exercise, held across the 260 political wards and 17 local government areas of the state, demonstrates that party leaders and members are united and fully supportive of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah as leader of the party in the state.

Speaking with journalists in Enugu on Wednesday after the congresses, he described the exercise as one of the best ever conducted by any political party in the state.

He noted that the peaceful, transparent and widely accepted nature of the congresses reflected the unity and focus within the party.

“The peaceful, transparent and widely accepted congresses we witnessed across Enugu State clearly show that our party is united and focused. From the wards to the local governments and the state, members freely expressed their will without intimidation or confusion. This level of organisation and acceptance has further strengthened confidence in the leadership of the party. It also reflects the trust party members have in the Governor’s direction, vision and capacity to lead the APC to greater electoral success in the state,” he said.

Ukwueze added that the party is preparing for what he described as one of the best primary elections in the coming weeks, as it begins the process of mobilising support to deliver 99.9 per cent of votes for Governor Mbah’s re-election in 2027, as well as for President Bola Tinubu.

He said the congresses produced credible leaders with strong character to guide the party at both the grassroots and state levels.

The ALGON deputy chairman also praised the ward, local government and state congress committees led by Dr. Lucky Ógbè, Rt. Hon. Funkekeme Solomon and Hon. Loveth Idisi for their professionalism, fairness and commitment, noting that their conduct ensured credibility and acceptance of the outcomes.

According to him, the orderly manner in which the congresses were conducted has strengthened internal democracy within the party and boosted members’ confidence ahead of future electoral engagements.

He further commended the outgoing APC Caretaker Committee led by Dr. Ben Nwoye, describing it as focused and inclusive, and credited it with laying the foundation for the smooth conduct of the congresses.

Ukwueze congratulated the new state leadership of the APC, led by Dr. Martin Chukwunwike, on their emergence at the state congress, describing the process as historic, peaceful and credible.

He expressed optimism that the new leadership would consolidate on the party’s unity and reposition it for greater political victories and overwhelming success in the forthcoming elections.
