ABUJA — A coalition of concerned Nigerians has called for caution in public discussions on sensitive national security matters, urging citizens to rely on verified information from relevant authorities.

Addressing journalists, the group emphasised that statements on security issues should be handled responsibly to avoid creating unnecessary fear or confusion.

Speaking on behalf of the coalition, Victor Mathew Bobai said allegations relating to national security require credible evidence and appropriate institutional engagement.

“Allegations of this magnitude require credible evidence and responsible engagement with appropriate institutions. Statements capable of causing panic should be avoided,” he said.

Bobai noted that the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, continues to coordinate efforts to address terrorism, banditry and organised crime, stressing the need to support security institutions.

Similarly, Hamisu Danbaba Malumfashi said sustained public confidence in security agencies is essential, particularly at a time when collective support is needed to address security challenges.

He called on political actors to prioritise stability and responsible communication on issues affecting national security.

Another member of the group, Adeosun Olayinka, urged Nigerians to evaluate public claims critically and insist on due process. He said concerns about governance or public safety should be addressed through lawful and institutional channels.

The coalition also announced plans to promote fact-checking and public awareness initiatives aimed at curbing misinformation, especially on security-related issues.

In a statement made available to journalists, the group said: “We urge Nigerians to remain calm and await clarification from appropriate authorities. Matters concerning national security should not be politicised or sensationalised.”
