BENIN CITY — Tragedy reportedly struck in the Ekenwan axis of Benin City on September 30, 2025, as a resident identified as Osahon lost his life following a violent mob attack linked to an alleged same-sex encounter, prompting the Edo State Command of the Nigerian Police to declare one Aigbe Junior Shedrack wanted.
The incident reportedly occurred at No. 19, 2nd Cemetery Road, off Eheneden Street, Ekenwan Road.
Eyewitness accounts in the community claimed that the violence was triggered after some community youths, acting on an alleged suspicion of the duo’s secret indulgence in the sacrilegious act of same-sex practice , allegedly forced their way into Osahon’s apartment.
Sources in the community reportedly claimed the youths met Osahon and Aigbe Junior Shedrack naked inside the apartment, after which the situation degenerated into violence.
The youths were said to have assaulted both men while raising alarm and contacting the police.
During the attack, Aigbe Junior Shedrack waa said to have sustained serious injuries, including heavy bleeding from the nose and was assisted to seek medical treatment before police operatives arrived.
“Shedrack never returned from where he had gone for urgent medical treatment and his whereabouts have remained unknown since then.” a neighbour informedl our correspondent.
Police officers who later arrived at the residence reportedly arrested Osahon and took him into custody. He was later pronounced dead while in police custody.
Meanwhile the police alleged that Osahon died from internal injuries sustained during the mob attack in Ekenwan axis of Benin City Edo state adding that an official autopsy report to confirm the exact cause of death is underway
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Joel Yamu, said Aigbe Junior Shedrack had been declared wanted for gross violation of the Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) 2013 Act.
He stated that the alleged unlawful act of violence in the Ekpeneden axis of Ekenwan, reportedly culminated in the death of Osahon during a mob attack.
SP Yamu added that the suspect Shedrack is wanted in connection with the unlawful and violent incident of September 30, 2025, which resulted in the death of his partner Osahon.
He warned members of the public against taking the law into their own hands, stressing that the Command would no longer tolerate jungle justice or mob actions.
The police spokesman urged residents and members of the public to cooperate with ongoing investigations, assuring that any information on the whereabouts of Aigbe Junior Shedrack would be treated with strict confidentiality.
