A member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Ikorodu Constituency II, Mr. Aro Abiodun Moshood, has praised the Global Affairs Magazine Awards (GAMA) for its unwavering commitment to recognising individuals and institutions driving humanitarian impact across Nigeria.

Speaking at the 4th edition of the GAMA Humanitarian Awards held Saturday at the Civic Centre, Lagos, the lawmaker, who was also one of the recipients, described the initiative as “a national call to deepen service, strengthen communities, and light the path for a more compassionate society.”

Moshood, honoured for his leadership and contributions to community development, said the awards have become a credible platform for celebrating Nigerians who channel their influence and resources toward social progress.

He noted that the 2025 theme, “Lighting the Way: Honouring Beacons of Hope,” reflects GAMA’s mission of spotlighting those who work tirelessly to improve lives, empower the vulnerable and inspire change.

The ceremony also saw GAMA empower several women entrepreneurs with financial support to expand their businesses, while scholarships were awarded to out-of-school children as part of efforts to reduce street child population and promote equal access to education.

Convener of GAMA, Regina Robinson, reaffirmed that the honours are strictly merit-based, given only to individuals whose service and innovation have yielded measurable societal impact.

“When we began the GAMA Awards four years ago, our vision was simple, to build a platform that elevates stories of resilience, leadership and humanitarian service that often go unnoticed,” she said.

Several notable personalities were also recognised, including former acting Vice-Chancellor of Covenant University and ECOWAS Consultant, Prof. Jonathan Aremu; Dean of Postgraduate Studies, Lagos State University, Prof. Olateju Olawale; and General Manager, Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA), Mr. Afolabi Solebo, among others.

Aremu, who delivered the keynote lecture, spoke on Transportation Logistics in Human–Environment Interaction under AfCFTA, while Solebo used the platform to sensitise the audience on LASCOPA’s mandate in safeguarding consumer rights and promoting ethical trade practices in Lagos.
