President of the Nigerian Bar Association, (NBA), Mr. Joseph Daudu, SAN, has stressed the need for the Federal Government to allow the creation of state police, saying “this is the best way to prevent crime in the country.”
Daudu who made the remark at the unveiling of the book titled ‘Commercial arbitration law and international practice in Nigeria,’ co-authored by the former Attorney-General and commissioner of justice in Lagos State, Mr. Olasupo Shasore, SAN and Mr. Adeyemi Candide-Johnson, held in Lagos, added “in Nigeria today, some people go about committing crime because they cannot really be brought to book.”
According to him, “We think that the nation is better policed by people who know the terrain than people who come from hundreds of miles to an area to protect lives and property.”
He added that these people do not know the cultural background of the area they were sent to work.
