ABUJA – The Bloggers and Vloggers Content Creators Association of Nigeria (BAVCCA) and the Coalition of Civil Society Organisations in Nigeria (COCSON) have called on President Bola Tinubu to prioritize the use of locally refined petroleum products and reduce fuel importation to strengthen the nation’s energy independence.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, the groups said Nigeria’s Dangote Refinery is capable of meeting the country’s daily petroleum needs, urging citizens to support the facility as a national asset.

BAVCCA President Ikechukwu Chukwunyere and COCSON President Husseini Abubakar expressed concern over the suspension of the 15 percent import duty on petrol and diesel, arguing that it could undermine local refineries’ competitiveness.

They highlighted that Dangote Refinery currently produces over 104 million litres of refined petroleum products daily, exceeding Nigeria’s national daily consumption of 70–75 million litres.

The groups urged the government to ensure policies that favor local production, calling for measures to protect the downstream sector and maintain stable fuel supply while promoting domestic refinery capacity.
