Nsukka Zonal Union, NZU, has decried clamour for six zonal structures in the country, saying such arrangement would defeat creation of new states and perpetuate domination of certain parts of the country.

NZU was reacting to the recent suggestion by the former Secretary of the Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku for the country to return to six zonal structures as a way of ensuring even development in the country.

However, the National Chairman of NZU, Chief Alphonsus Eze who spoke in an interview in Enugu said domination and discrimination were the major reasons which led to agitations for the creation of WAWA states out of the former Eastern Region.

He said: ’’The reasons which prompted the agitations for the creation of Enugu and Ebonyi States out of the former Eastern Region are far from being over.

The people of old Nsukka Province have been agitating for the creation of Adada out of Enugu State since the Second Republic.

’’Our main reason for doing so is because of domination. If there was justice and equity in this country, Nigerians can even exist without states or local governments or regions. ’The rapid growth of certain parts of the country today can be attributed to states creation.

As a group, it will be difficult to group us for example, with states which are more developed than the people of Enugu and Ebonyi states.”
