The International Organization for Migration, IOM, in Nigeria has sought collaboration with the Benue State Environmental Sanitation Authority, BENSESA, to evacuate the waste generated in internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, camps across the state.

The global organisation made the request when its representatives, Mr. Kachallah Ibrahim and Juliette De Gaultier visited the BENSESA General Manager, Mrs. Nanshima Daniel in Makurdi.

The Information Officer of BENSESA, Iorver Aondonengen in a statement said the delegation informed the General Manager that they were in her office to seek the assistance of BENSESA in the evacuation of the waste generated in IDPs camps in Ukpam, Daudu, Gbajimba, Ortese among others in the state.

The delegation informed the General Manager that “the organization has intervened in IDPs Camps through its activities including provision of shelters, water, sanitary facilities such as toilets, routine cleaning of immediate surroundings, attendance to their health needs among others.

“They noted that at the moment, the organization is overstretched in rendering these services hence the need for collaboration with BENSESA in the area of waste evacuation to complement its effort towards achieving total cleanliness in the IDPs camps across the state as enshrined in its mission and vision.”

Receiving the delegation, Mrs. Daniel lauded IOM for its laudable interventions in crisis and disaster affected areas in the state describing its action a huge relief.

She promised the quick response of BENSESA to the request as soon as the feasibility study was carried out by the authority’s Public Health Department for consequent immediate action.
