…empowers 9,259 PWDs with N200,000 business recapitalization grants

ABUJA — THE First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Thursday, announced the plan to distribute 37,000 disposable sanitary pads, 10,000 per state including the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, to female students in secondary schools.

Senator Oluremi Tinubu also said that 9,259 persons with disabilities, PWDs, 250 per state, will be empowered with N200,000 each to recapitalize their businesses.

The President’s wife disclosed this while outlining a series of initiatives by her Renewed Hope Initiative, RHI, aimed at empowering women, enhancing environmental sustainability, and supporting vulnerable communities across the country, during her first meeting for the year with wives of governors at the State House, Abuja.

Some of the key projects she listed to be embarked upon include the “Flow with Confidence” initiative, which will distribute disposable sanitary pads to girls nationwide, ensuring they remain in school during their menstrual cycles.

According to her, each state, including the FCT, will receive 10,000 cartons, with wives of governors overseeing the distribution ensuring each girl child in a school gets one carton.

Mrs. Tinubu also emphasized environmental projects, such as establishing climate change clubs in secondary schools and in universities.

She explained that the goal for the proposed environmental project is to get the students involved in climate change and waste management as well as have a recycling plant in each state, promoting waste management and reducing plastic pollution.

She said that the RHI has already made significant strides, including empowering women farmers and providing food staples to vulnerable groups.

The initiative, she said aimed to uplift women and vulnerable communities, aligning with broader national development goals.

Mrs.Tinubu urged wives of governors to lead the collective action to address these challenges, emphasising the importance of prayer and unity during the lenten season and ramadan.

While fielding questions from journalists Senator Oluremi Tinubu emphasized the importance of collective effort in driving national development.

On the establishment of environmental clubs, she said: “We want the students from tertiary institutions that are especially in the faculty of environment to be involved, and I believe that we want to see even those in biological sciences as well.”

The First Lady emphasised the need for a “can-do spirit” among young people, urging them to work towards achieving their goals.

“Hard work is one of our tenets that took us out of poverty. Even the Bible says, faith without works is dead. So, go and work, work for this country. Let this country grow.”
