SOKOTO – Major General Ibikunle Ajose, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 8 Division, Nigerian Army, has called on operational commanders to prioritize teamwork in all their activities.
Ajose, who also serves as the Commander of Sector 2, Operation Fansan Yamma, made this appeal while officially closing a five-day Operations Planning Cadre in Sokoto on Friday.
Represented by Brigadier General Abubakar Suru, Chief of Staff at the 8 Division Headquarters, Ajose urged participants to apply the strategic leadership skills and professionalism acquired during the training in their respective formations.
He expressed confidence that the training had equipped the officers with essential operational planning and problem-solving tools, emphasizing their critical role in shaping the outcomes of security operations.
“Our ability to effectively counter evolving threats depends on leadership, decision-making, and coordination among those on the frontline,” he stated.
Ajose stressed the importance of inter-agency cooperation and teamwork in military operations, highlighting the need for enhanced leadership skills to ensure optimal performance.
He further noted that the training and shared experiences had empowered officers with the necessary expertise to lead effectively and navigate strategic security challenges.
According to him, these efforts align with the Chief of Army Staff’s vision to develop a cadre of officers equipped with advanced knowledge, skills, and professionalism in addressing security concerns.
He advised commanders to conduct periodic reviews after operations, allowing individuals and junior officers to share their experiences. This, he said, would help refine future strategies for greater success.
Ajose also emphasized that Nigeria’s security challenges do not differentiate between combat and non-combat officers, underscoring the need for tailored tactical approaches at all levels.
