ABEOKUTA- Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State has described constant power supply as a catalyst for technological development which is a propeller of socio-economic development of any nation.

Governor Amosun who spoke while declaring open a five-day training workshop on Energy Demand and Supply Projections organised by the Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Energy, advised the Federal Government to pay more attention to power supply.

The governor emphasized the need to allow states generate and distribute energy to drive investment and create an economically stable society to reduce unemployment rate and encourage wealth creation.

He said Ogun State was enormously endowed with renewable energy like solar which could serve as a veritable source of power generation and enjoined participants to take advantage of the workshop to achieve adequate Energy Development Master Plan for accelerated development in the state.

Also,  the Special Adviser to the Ogun State Governor on Energy, Mr. Taiwo Fagbemi said adequate supply of energy remained the easiest way to improve industrialization and create employment opportunities in any society

Planning for provision of energy for industrialization and job creation, according to Fagbemi, required a well thought-out plan designed to determine the energy requirements of every community with a view to improving power generation and distribution in such location. This, he noted, would aid the growth of small scale businesses which remained the backbone of a nation’s economy.

Speaking in the same vein, a Director in the Federal Energy Department in the Energy Commission of Nigeria, Mr. Oluyemi Ojosu, an engineer, enjoined State and Local Governments in the country to take advantage of the recent approval given by the Federal Government for other tiers of government to generate and distribute power.

Ojosu said it was important for these two tiers of government to do this in order to know the amount required and make concerted efforts to plan and provide same for the socio-economic growth of their people.

He explained that with this done, small scale entrepreneurship would increase and more job opportunities will be created for the youths as well as reduce the degree of dependence on the centre for power generation and distribution.
