By SIMON EBEGBULEM

BENIN CITY – Gbaramatu Youth Development Council, GYC, of Warri North Local Government Council of Delta State, weekend, passed a vote of no confidence on the Egbema Gbaramatu Communities Development Foundation EGCDF, after it acussed the body of alleged mortgage of the future of the youths of the area.

The youths alleged that the Memorandum of Understanding, MOU, signed between the Gbaramatu/Egbema kingdom and oil giant, Chevron in 2004 and reviewed in 2009 was not the true position of the people of the kingdom and therefore should be withdrawn forthwith.

The youths in an enlarged meeting held at Oporoza weekend, accused the leadership of the EGCDF of conniving with Chevron to deny the people of the area their legitimate right, therefore called for the resignation of the leaders.

The President of the youth association, Felix Ubebe who spoke at the meeting noted that the purpose of setting up the Egbema/Gbaramatu Ethnic Development Foundation had been defeated, alleging that Chevron “has completely cornered them to their favour to the detriment of the people they represent.

“ It is sad that these few leaders have forgotten about the plight of the youths, the suffering elderly in these communities who voted them into their position today”.
