Oyo PDP appeals tribunal’s judgment over Ajimobi’s election

By OLA AJAYI

IBADAN – IT is not yet celebration time for Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State as the Peoples Democratic Party in the state filed an appeal against the judgment delivered by the State Election Petition tribunal which confirmed the victory of the governor in the April 2011 election.

The lower tribunal had dismissed the petition by the PDP saying it failed to prove its allegation of dual citizenship of Nigeria and United States of America it levelled against Governor Ajimobi.

But, the spokesperson of the party, Alhaji Bashiru Akanbi hinted at the weekend that the party had vowed to explore all legal avenues open to it on the petition.

The party said it had “already filed its appeal against the judgment of the Oyo State governorship election petition tribunal which dismissed our petition against the election of Senator Abiola Ajimobi as the governor of Oyo State. Our party is determined to pursue the case to the logical conclusion as stipulated by the law of the land.”

The party spokesperson explained that nothing would stop the party which believes much in the rule of law from pursuing the election petition as well as protecting the nation’s growing democracy through the Appeal.

Alhaji Akanbi used the opportunity to score low the performance of the administration of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, saying it had disappointed the people of the state.

He alleged that the current administration remained a total failure in the state.

To him, erecting signposts at strategic positions in the state was a mere window dressing as the Ajimobi led administration had allegedly not constructed any road so far in the state.

‘’The administration of Governor Abiola Ajimobi in Oyo State in the last 202 days in office has not shown any clear direction in office.”

Though, Governor Ajimobi inaugurated the Youth Empowerment Scheme tagged YES-O last week, the opposition party claimed that the governor “promised at the inception of his administration to create 20,000 jobs within his 100 days in office but as at now when the administration is 202 days, he is yet to create a single job not to talk of 20,000.”
