Minister of Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Senator Bala Mohammed, has said the Federal Government was committed to making Abuja the best capital city in Africa.

He said this when the Director-General of  National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS, Professor Tijanni Muhammad-Bande led the management and members of Course 33 of the Institute on a courtesy call on the Minister in Abuja.

The Minister, represen-ted by FCT Permanent Secretary, Dr. Biodun Olorunfemi, said the FCT administration was doing its best to upgrade infra-structure and facilities in the city to meet best international standards.

He added that investors have been attracted to FCT citing Balkan Development Centre in Dallas, USA, which is to develop the high profile Abuja Town Centre for $2.6 billion.

According to him, FCT administration was committed to the develop-ment, of not just Abuja city, but also the satellite towns as a deliberate way of de-congesting the city centre.

To broaden and strengthen the ICT back-bone of the FCT Admini-stration, he said a leading information management and communications expert from the British Broad-casting Communication, BBC, Jamillah Tangaza, was recently engaged.

The Minister said that the growth rate of Abuja is now four times higher than the average growth rate of other capital cities in Africa. He attributed the spiralling population to some political factors like cases of members of the National Assembly and their aides staying back in Abuja with their families at the end of their tenures rather than return to their various states.
