A TOTAL of 100 companies in Nigeria will get award for attaining some measure of best practice in the work place through managerial approach to employees.

However, the awardees are yet to be known.

Managing Director, Great Place to Work, Mr. Kunle Malomo, said the initiative is to recognise companies that have inculcated a global practice of work environment and impacted on the productivity level of the employers creating an environment where employees are motivated to express their creativity in work places.

“The foundation of every great place to work is trust between employers and employees, he said.”

While describing the activity of the human resource training firm at a briefing, Malomo said “the training methods employ by Great Place to Work is designed for managers to become more effective at meeting the organisation’s objectives , achieve higher productivity , quality of products and services and innovation in order to reduce cost.

It has been observed globally that to recognise companies that have through their managers inculcated a global practice of work environment that have really impacted on the overall productivity level of the employers as high trust work environment requires a good management behaviour that can be learned and embedded into a work place culture.”

The Managing Director however expressed concerns that only few managers of indigenous companies have given due priority to staff motivation as a main stay of their business stressing that it is a practice that have been entrenched in most multi-national companies in the world.

According to him, the situation is further heightened by the seemingly distrust between employers and employees as seen in most indigenous companies which tends to lower productivity as the environment lacks the missing link where employees are motivated to express their creativity in Nigeria.

Malomo reiterated that with the award slated for the December 7 2011, there is going to be a change of approach that would see both employers and employees approach the issue work place environment with credibility, respect, fairness and pride that strive towards achieving a great place to work
