PDP is out to rescue Lagos – Dosunmu

By Emmanuel Aziken
Dr.Ade Dosunmu, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the last gubernatorial election has urged Lagosians to come out and vote out ACN candidates in the council polls saying the councils have failed to justify their huge monthly allocations.

Dosunmu who lost to the ACN’s candidate, Babatunde Fashola in a statement yesterday affirmed that PDP controlled councils would provide more transparent and people oriented services to the populace.

Noting that the council polls provided the electorate the opportunity to enthrone better alternatives, he said:

“We have been taken for granted in the last 12 years by the ACN led governments in our local councils with the massive plundering of our collective patrimony. We do not need anybody to convince us that our localities are in a state of despair with high infrastructural decay. Let us rise up to take advantage of this opportunity for a change once and for all.”

Meaningful development

“There is absolutely no meaningful development on ground in our different local government to justify the monthly allocation of N7.8 billion to the 20 constitutionally recognized local governments in Lagos State from the federation account.

Dosumu: Flag bearer for Lagos PDP

This translates to an average of almost N400 million per local government, yet, no commensurate impact in terms of physical and human developments. The facts speak for itself.”

“The recent flood disaster and hardships regularly encountered as a result of bad roads, indiscriminate sand-filling of the lagoon, lack of drainages, speak volume as to what has been done with the billons of naira allocated to each local government yearly, not to talk of the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) through multiple taxation, which in most cases is unaccounted for.”

“The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will provide a better alternative in Lagos State through good governance and will regularly subject itself to public scrutiny and be accountable to the people. Voting the PDP will also make it impossible for the local government funds in joint allocation to be tampered with by the state government; hence the people will feel the impact of local government administration as an independent arm of government.”

“The beauty of democracy is the variety it offers, it is to engender the spirit of competition and to put elected officials on their toes, but the reverse has been the case in Lagos State with the ACN. They are again presenting the same set of people who offered nothing in the past to be elected, including imposing candidates, while calling the bluff of the people.”

“They have shown enough insensitivity to the plight of Lagosians and only deserved to be swept away with their own very broom which could not in any way sweep away the flood that ravaged our different homes. We all know that they thrived on propaganda, but are now jittery over the decision of the PDP to march them candidate for candidate for the LG poll.”

“Let us all go out in our large numbers on Saturday and vote for the PDP for a meaningful change in the polity. Let us be mindful of their antics and jealously guide our votes without compromise. We should all resist being lured with money and gifts to sell ourselves into more years of slavery. This is the time for us to rescue Lagos with our vote. Together and collectively we can.”
