ABEOKUTA—Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has disclosed that no less than five houses belonging to his family would be affected in the expansion of Ibara-Sokori-Totoro road that has already been awarded by the government.

According to a statement by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communication to the governor, Mrs Funmi Wakama

Governor Amosun, who  spoke today with residents during an early morning visit to the area to assess the extent of damage in the fire incident caused by a tanker involved in a lone accident, attributed the incident to bad portions of roads inherited from the last administration.

“This is why we need to develop our state. This is the reason we are trying to expand the road. I want the people to cooperate with the government. Even my own family houses, about five will be affected in the expansion process. We are not demolishing for demolishing sake. I will implore our people to please cooperate with the contractors who will soon begin the expansion from Ibara to Enugada”

No fewer than 7 vehicles comprising six cars and a tipper, including six shops got burnt on Sunday evening when a tanker with number plate XN 52 AGL fully loaded with petroleum product was involved in a lone accident, spilling its content in the process, resulting in the fire.

He promised that government would compensate those that were affected in the incident, saying that ‘’I have asked the government agency in charge to take stock. We will compensate the people involved. We thank God, no life was lost. This is why we should develop all our areas . This is the essence of appealing to people to abide by road rules. We are not trying to inconvenient anybody or demolish houses for the sake of it.

Those whose houses will be affected will be paid compensation.”

Governor Amosun used the opportunity of the visit to appeal to the people to cooperate with the government and the contractors who will soon start work on the road already awarded from Ibara to Enugada in Abeokuta. He thanked the security agencies and other people involved for their efforts, which prevented loss of lives in the accident.
