Following the inability of the organisers of the Federation Cup to conclude the group stages of the tournament as planned, the Nigeria Premier League, NPL has disclosed that there will be no league matches this weekend as expected.
Speaking to Inside Out Premier League, the NPL Acting Secretary General, Mr. Tunji Babalola disclosed that the time frame in which clubs participating in the continent had to play their Federation Cup matches, has made the board not to consider the possibility of the reaming league games to be played.
He also said that if there might be any match at all, it will be that of rescheduled games.
“I do not think there will be any league game this weekend as some clubs have just finished playing their Federation Cup matches. It will take them time to get to their home ground and prepare for league games.
“Beside that, we have agreed that all rescheduled matches must be played first; with this, I think only re-scheduled matches might be played this weekend if there is time for the teams involved,” Babalola said.
He also said that electoral committee will meet to determine the modalities in which the NPL Chairmanship election will be conducted.
