The management of Enyimba FC of Aba are requesting that the NPL award last weekend’s league match against Ocean Boys of Yenegoa to them.

Protesting what they termed as “the injustice, ill and violent treatment” meted out to them by Ocean Boys and their supporters, the two-time African champions are asking that the NPL Disciplinary and Organising Committee to award them the match .

In a letter addressed to the Acting Executive Secretary of the NPL dated May 16, 2011, chairman of the club, Felix Anyansi Agwu complained of the mental and psychological torture Enyimba players, officials and supporters went through before, during and after the match in Yenegoa and reasoned that even the referees who officiated in the match were subjected to the same torture.

The club chairman disclosed that the host club failed to provide adequate security for the topflight encounter thereby prompting the reign of terror as exhibited by tugs suspected to be supporters of the home side.

Anyansi said Enyimba  and its supporters club suffered a loss estimated at N815,000(Eight hundred and fifteen thousand Naira) and asked for a refund.

“Although we pleaded for adequate security before, during and after the match and this was guaranteed by the host FA, not more than 20 policemen were seen as against the 50 promised during the pre-match meeting,” Anyansi stated in the letter.

Concluding, the club boss said, “In the belief that the board are actively committed to the development of our football and discouraging violence and all acts capable of bringing the game into disrepute in Nigeria we are asking that the match be awarded to us believing that the referee acted under threat.”
