ADO-EKITI-Soldiers were drafted to strategic locations in the ancient town of Ikere-Ekiti yesterday when the students of the 31 years old College of Education in the town took to the streets, protesting hike in school fees recently introduced by the authorities of the college.

The aggrieved students, who carried placards of various inscriptions called on the state government, the owner of the college to remove the Acting Provost of the College, Dr (Mrs) Titilayo Ogunmola for allegedly defying order of the state government led by Dr Kayode Fayemi that no student would pay outrageous fee during his tenure.

The students who made bonfires, barricaded all the major roads leading to the town and put the commercial activities of the second largest town in the state to a halt throughout the period of their action.

Vanguard gathered that the protest which commenced on a peaceful note, took a different dimension when one of the protesting student was hit by a commercial vehicle at Odo Oja Area of Ikere Ekiti, a development which may have spurred the students into violent action.

Though, the  state government, has ordered the indefinite closure of the institution to forestall further breakdown of law and order, the students vowed  to stay put until the state government, the proprietor of the college made a definite statement over the reduction of the fee.
