Okorocha’s victory excites Akunyili

Awka, – Former Minister of Information and Communications, Prof. Dora Akunyili, has expressed delight over the victory of Chief Rochas Okorocha of APGA at the supplementary governorship election in Imo.

Akunyili, who contested election for the Anambra Central senatorial district on the platform of APGA on April 26, but lost to ACN’s Chris Ngige, also praised the courage of the people of the state.

She said  on Sunday in Awka that it Okorocha’s victory was worthy of celebration.

“I am happy for Rochas; for our great party, APGA and for the good people of Imo State whose will has prevailed.

“After our sad experience in Anambra State where I was robbed of victory in the senatorial election, we thank God that at least we as a party now have a big victory to celebrate.’’

Similarly, the Imo state chairman of APGA, Chief Mike Kwentor, said Okorocha’s victory indicated that the party had won previous elections held in the state.

He said: “I thank God immensely for vindicating us. In the past electoral years in Imo, we performed so creditably, but because of the forces against us, we were always being rigged out.

“But this time around, God has heard our prayers and has blessed us with Chief Rochas Okorocha who emerged victorious as governor of Imo.

“It avails us the opportunity to know that the South East belongs to us and for us to continue to battle until the entire region is fully set free from the shackles of anti-progressives.’’ (NAN)
