THE Uvwie Local Government Area chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to annul the House of Assembly election in the constituency held  on April 26, 2011.

Secretary of the party in the area, Mr Isaac Itobi, who made the call in a chat with newsmen, frowned at the declaration Mr Efe Ofoburuku of the Democratic Peoples Party, DPP, as winner of the election by the Returning Officer, Mr T. Mokobia, since there was no election  in six units in the area.

Itobi argued that the election was inconclusive, adding that the declaration of  Ofoburuku  as winner of the election was contrary to the provisions of the Electoral Act 2010 as amended.

Insisting that Ofoburuku’s declaration  as winner of the election was illegal, he added that the winning margin was not in excess of the registered voters in the units where election was not held.

How Delta guber poll was rigged, by Ncp candidate

THE governorship candidate of the Nigeria Conscience Party, NCP, in the just concluded gubernatorial election in Delta State, Mr. Collins Eselemo, weekend, in Benin, gave a detailed account of how the election was allegedly rigged in the state.  He also alleged that one of his co-ordinators in the state was hacked to death during the exercise at Ojobo in Burutu Local Government Area.

Mr. Eselemo, who spoke to journalists in Benin, yesterday,  on how the election was rigged in Bomadi, Burutu and Warri North Local Government Areas of the state by electoral officers backed by the military under the guise as men of the Joint Military Taskforce, JTF, with a view of providing security, described the governorship election in Delta State as a total sham and monumental failure.

He added that it was unfortunate that what took place in the state was the dislocation of the peoples’ franchise  at a time when right thinking Nigerians were tasking themselves on how to better the lives of the people.

DPP candidate calls for prosecution of INEC officials

DEMOCRATIC Peoples Party, DPP, candidate for the April 26 House of Assembly, Burutu South II Constituency in Delta State, Mr. Kennedy Orubebe, has called for investigation and trial of all persons, including Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, officials, who allegedly compromised and awarded victory to his Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, opponent for selfish interests.

Orubebe in a petition, to the INEC chairman, Prof Attahiru Jega, said he won the election with 12,292 against the 10,159 polled by his PDP opponent in five wards of the constituency. He added that he was surprised on why the commission’s Returning Officer for the local government area  declared the election inconclusive.

The DPP candidate accused an INEC official (names withheld) for the decision, adding that because of his entrenched interest, the official intervened to prevent him from being declared winner.

Army collaborated with DPP, ACN to rig poll—Oyovbaire

FORMER Information minister, Prof. Sam Oyovbaire and a Peoples Democratic Party, PDP chieftain in Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State, has petitioned the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and the Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Delta State over alleged  electoral malpractices, bordering on fraud by INEC officials, Army personnel from Davis Ejoor Barracks and the opposition parties of DPP/ACN in the just concluded governorship and  state House of Assembly polls in the area.

The petition  by the PDP Okpe council chairman, Chief J.Scott; Secretary, Maj. Samuel Johnson (rtd); party leader Chief Tom Amioku and Prof. Oyovbaire also allaged the  murder of  a party agent, Mr. Joseph Ode by men of the Nigeria Army at the collation centre at the Adane-Okpe primary school.
