AKURE – A debate organised by the Ondo State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, in conjunction with the Akure branch of the Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, for candidates of the three major political parties was shunned.

The well publicized debate was to feature candidates standing for the April election in the State House of Assembly, House of Representatives and the Senate.

Chairman of Akure Branch of the NBA, Nasir Oseni and the Ondo State Chairman of the NUJ, Dele Atunbi had sent invitation letters to the three major political parties in the state for participation in the debate.
Candidates of the three political parties invited for the debate are of the Action Congress of Nigeria, the ruling Labour Party and the Peoples Democratic Party.

Journalists who converged at the NUJ press centre yesterday for the debate were disappointed as only one candidate vying for the House of Representatives in the ACN showed up.
