LAGOS — An official of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, has been arrested in connection with the pandemonium that broke out Tuesday in Ojota area of Lagos, following the death of road sweeper- employee of Lagos State Waste Management Authority, LAWMA.
Other members of the team, said to have been in pursuit of the truck that crushed the 62-year-old grandmother, are still at large.
A source at LASTMA headquarters, told Vanguard that the arrested official was the only one indicted during an in- house investigation.
The sorce said if found culpable, the official whose identity was not disclosed to Vanguard, will be made to face the wrath of the law.
However, driver of the truck with number plate XR 505 BDG, according to the Lagos State Police Public Relations officer, Mr. Samuel Jinadu was yet to be found.
Jinadu said investigation into the exact cause of what he described as an unfortunate incident, was still un-going, adding that efforts were still on to apprehend the fleeing driver.
Following the reoccurring incidents of death during apprehension of traffic offenders, it was gathered that LASTMA had begun an intensified reorientation of its officials, where caution was advised to be their watch word.
An insider told vanguard that the officials were advised to use other methods of arrest than chasing an erring motorist to drive home their point, in order to avoid the continuos loss of innocent lives.
