Jos—A member of the House of Representatives from Plateau State, Mr. Bitrus Kaze, has expressed concern over the failure to bring to book identified sponsors of the recurring violence in the state.

He told journalists that a situation where security agencies announce purported breakthroughs in investigation into various incidents or arrest of suspects at the end of which nothing is heard puts a question mark on the sincerity of such agencies.

He said: “The spate of terrorism in Jos and environs further threatens the already terrible public image and credibility of some security agencies.

“Precisely on Tuesday 26th October, 2010 the immediate past Plateau State CP, Mr. Ikechukwu Aduba, announced ‘a big breakthrough’ in the investigation into the Rawhinku attack.

“He said seven persons were arrested and that two of them made confessional statements linking a prominent person to the attack. To quote him: ‘We all know him and we have given him up to Friday to show himself otherwise, we will have no option than to announce his name publicly’.

“Rather than expose him publicly since he failed to show himself, the Police authorities curiously transferred CP Aduba like CP Greg Anyating before him. The Rawhinku attackers may have been taken to force headquarters and freed like their counterparts, the ignoble 26 ‘Okene Police’,” Kaze added.

He described the linking of members of the Security Task Force, STF, with some of the attacks on villages as disturbing, citing the alleged discovery of the identification card of one of them at the scene of the recent attack on Wareng village where 13 people were killed.

He also faulted those who blamed the Christmas Eve bombings in the state on leadership and wondered if those calling for a state of emergency in the state were behind the violence to achieve this end.
