House of Representatives aspirant for Ifako-Ijaiye Federal Constituency, on the platform of Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, Otunba Yomi Ogunnusi, has said that the  country can get it right and make progress by stopping the jumbo salaries paid to members of the National Assembly.

He also reiterated the need for the passage of Freedom of Information Bill, FoI, into law.

Ogunnusi, who spoke to newsmen in Lagos, said the country was endowed with abundant human and material resources needed to turn things around for the better, adding that the challenges posing threats to the country’s continuous existence was caused by greed and resolve by the leaders to place personal interest above national interest.

He said he picked the ticket not only to bring dividends of democracy to his people but also to  join hands with progressive members of the National Assembly to ensure that the worrisome menace of jumbo pay was discontinued without delay.

He expressed worry over the non passage of the Freedom of Information Bill which he said is needed for the enhancement of democracy in the country.

He said: “FoI bill is required to achieve the nation’s much desired good governance. There is need for a serious advocacy for the passage of the FoI Bill in the country. It is an issue the new world order is currently addressing .Nigeria cannot be exempted  from it .A free society where people have unfettered access to information will help us to solve a lot of these vices like corruption. People think it is about the media , but it is not .It I for the general good of the country.”.

He lamented that those who should have fought for the immediate passage of  FoI Bill to accelerate democratic gains in the country are the ones working assiduously to ensure that the bill does not see the light of the day, assuring that the present crop of lawmakers warming up to take the baton from the legislators will make a difference.

He urged the government of the day to give priority attention to the issues of security and job creation in the country to make life meaningful for the citizenry, adding that national growth and stability can only be guaranteed when there is significant improvement in various areas that regulates human existence.
