ADO-EKITI—THE Personal Assistant to the ousted governor of Ekiti State, Engr Segun Oni, Mr Bunmi Ojo has been arrested and detained by the Ekiti State Police Command over an allegation of supplying arms to a criminal suspect.

A leader of criminal gang, Kenneth George, had in his confessional statement to the police alleged that Ojo gave him some guns he was using in the criminal activities.

Vanguard reliably gathered that a team of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, led by its commander, Mr. Okoronko.C. Ogbonnaya, a Superintendent of Police was said to have arrested Ojo at his residence in Ado Ekiti yesterday.

Oni’s aide was apprehended and clamped into detention following a tip-off that he was planning to run away from the state after being implicated by the robbery suspects who allegedly worked for his principal as thugs at the rerun election.

Vanguard gathered  that the former governor was said to have  made a statement to the police stating all he knows about the alleged involvement of some of his aides in criminal activities in the run-up to the 2009 governorship rerun poll.

The arrest of the suspects followed complaints of an unending spate of robbery and other criminal activities by people in Ido/Osi Local Government Area of the state.

The  State Police PRO, Mr Mohammed Jimoh, a Superintendent of police,  confirmed the arrest, saying Ojo was arrested following an allegation by George, the leader of a criminal gand that the former PA was responsible for supplying of arms in his possession

Reacting to the arrest, the former governor, Engr Oni described the arrest of his former PA as having political colouration

Speaking through his Chief Press Secretary, Wale Ojo Lanre,  said it was the plan of the present government led by Dr Kayode Fayemi to  implicate all the associates of Oni through a trumped up charges

‘’lt is a pity police is conniving with Fayemi and others to turn a pure case of armed robbery to political weapon of victimization,’ the statement said.
