Babalola faults FG’s N294m Ado-Ekiti airstrip budget

Ado-Ekiti—Eminent lawyer, Chief Afe Babalola,SAN, has raised an alarm that the sum of N294 million earmarked  by the Federal Government  for the take- off of  the proposed Ado Ekiti airstrip may be lost if no physical  development is done on the site of the airstrip.

Speaking in  Ado Ekiti, the legal practitioner noted that the photographical survey of the airstrip had been carried out before the exit of the ousted governor of the state,Engr Segun Oni

Babalola noted that he had  contacted the fedreal government,  and  personally wrote a letter to the new governor in the state, Dr Kayode Fayemi  on the need while the execution of the airstrip must commence

The legal practitioner further disclosed that the people of the state may lose the airstrip if the fund earmarked for the project is not utilized

Babalola who blamed the delay in the take _off of the multi_million project to the change  in government recently witnessed in the state

The  legal practitioner who described Ekiti State as a landlocked, arguing that most of the roads linking the state with any   other parts of the country are a death _traps

‘’’The last adminitration approached the federal government for an airstrip.The photographical survey of the place had been carried out

Federal government has earmarked the sum of N294 million for the take off of the project, if the money is not utilized , the money stands to lapse

‘’If that eventually happened, the money would be returned to the federal government  may say we are not serious

Commenting  an alleged lopsidedness of resources available at the federal level, the legal practitioner argued that  the present constitution was too expensive  for the country to run

He therefore argued that the country should revert to the  strong regional federation  where each states /region would have its own constitution
