VC quits over Ogun bond impasse

By Kolade Larewaju, Abeokuta
VICE-CHANCELLOR of the Crescent University Abeokuta, Prof. Sheriffdeen Tella, has resigned his appointment alleging threats and intimidation by Ogun State Government officials for his refusal to retract his statement that the state House of Assembly should not approve the Bond issue being sought by the Government.

Tella who said that his resignation would take effect from Monday said that he would be returning to the Olabisi Onabanjo University, where he was before his appointment as Vice-Chancellor of Crescent, and be prepared to battle for survival.

But the state government through the commissioner for information, Mr. Sina Kawonise, denied having any hands in the travails of Tell, adding that the government has put the bond issue behind it.

Tella, a professor of economics, in an electronic mail to journalists in Abeokuta asked them to stop referring to him as the VC of Crescent forthwith, saying  he had to resign as pressure has continued to be mounted on the university authorities to get him do a public apology or sack him.
