Asaba — A new Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Dr. Gabriel Adah, has resumed duties in Delta State, saying that only governorship candidates fielded by their respective political parties during the annulled 2007 governorship polls would participate in the re-run.

He said he will conduct the re-run, using the old voter’s register, while there will  be no need for parties to hold primaries before the re-run.

Former state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Alhaji Ismaila Abdulkareem, announced the outcome of the  2007 governorship election,  that was annulled by the Court of Appeal. 13 candidates contested then, namely: Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan of PDP; Chief Great  Ovedje Ogboru of DPP, Felix Ozorbo of RPN; Okeya Edwin of NMDP; Igbini Emmanuel of PRP and Taju Isichei of PPA, among others.

Dr. Adah told a stakeholder’s forum in Asaba, that in using the old register, cases of temporary voters’ cards as well as registered voters whose names were missing in the register would be remedied during the display of the list preparatory to the fresh guber polls in the state.

On the preparedness of parities, chairman of Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, in Delta State, Chief Sam Egwerome, said “re-run election as it happened in Kogi, Adamawa and Cross River States were between candidates, who participated in April 14, 2007 guber elections. Whether this would be different, only INEC can decide. So we are waiting.”
