BENIN—member representing Ikpoba-Okha/Egor federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Ehiozuwa Agbonayonma, has rejected last Saturday’s National Assembly elections which produced his opponent, Jude Ise-Idehen of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as the winner of the election.

Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, announced that Ise-Idehen polled 53,618 votes, while Agbonayinma scored 44,323 votes.

Addressing newsmen yesterday, Agbonayonma said the election was fraught with irregularities and that he was rejecting it and would challenge the outcome in court.

He said: “Following the reports of our party agents, stakeholders and independent observers at various polling units and collation centres across the wards in Egor and Ikpoba-Okha Local Government areas, it is established that there was flagrant violations of the provisions of the Electoral Act.

“We have it on good authority that in several wards collation centres, the results were not collated and announced at the units and ward collating centres, which is contrary to the provisions of Section 27, 1(a) and (b) of the Electoral Act, as amended.

“In Egor and Okpoba-Okha, Supervisory Presi-ding Officers and Electoral Officers disappeared with unsigned results, only to reappear after long hours with the results still unsigned, which negate the result announced.”
