AWKA—Senator Annie Okonkwo has called on Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, members in Anambra State to remain calm and steadfast, following current crisis within state executive council of the party.

Okonkwo, who was reacting to the recent Abuja High Court ruling by Justice Yusuf ordering the reinstatement of the Benji Udeozor-led Exco of the party, stated that while he did not begrudge the court for its pronouncement, the pyrrhic reprieve to the litigants was unhelpful “because you can not substitute comedy for strategy in party growth and governance.”

Speaking through his Special Assistant, Media, Mr. Collins Ugwu, Senator Annie regretted that the recurring judicial ambush by die-hard local potentates had once again betrayed their wilful refusal to allow the party’s national chairman’s passionate efforts for internal democracy in the State PDP gain roots to blossom.

He said: “I, therefore, urge the Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo-led National Exco, in concert with the South East Zonal Leadership of the party, to refuse to allow this blackmail affect their momentum to reposition the party in the state, and rescue it from the disappearing grip of professional scavengers.

“The point must be made that there should be an end to this dance of shame in Anambra PDP, and that politics in a democracy has no room for those who can’t respect institutions or obey rules.

“As a committed PDP stakeholder in the state who is as determined as every other honest member to see our party assume its proper position of strength and leadership, I urge every loyal member of our great party to ignore this sudden bubble that will soon go burst because the sacrifices we have all endured to come this far is secure in the articulate commitment of the NWC of the party to overturn this affront, and persist with the desirable representative reforms in Anambra State PDP.

“But even more importantly, let me also advise those who prosper and prospect by this culture of chaos to show courage in character by embracing the noble renewal in repentance for even greater opportunities in a bigger united PDP in Anambra State.”

Senator  Okonkwo, who is also Deputy Chairman, Senate Committee on Erosion and Ecology, was recently endorsed by his constituents for a return to the Senate because of his untiring commitment to a new state for the South East zone and unmatched crusade for erosion control programme for his people.
