SAPELE — FORMER militants, who are supposed to be undergoing skills acquisition programme  in Sapele, Delta State, barricaded the Benin-Warri Road, again yesterday.

The former militants,  who were sent to Sapele by the Presidential Committee on Amnesty for skill acquisition after the compulsory one-month orientation in Obubra, Cross River State, had barricaded the Benin-Warri Road about a fortnight ago.

They were protesting the non-payment of housing allowance, which they put at between N300,000 and N350,000 and other allowances by the Federal Government.

He had also complained of poor feeding arrangement.

Yesterday, they barricaded the Benin-Warri Road at Sapele with woods and other objects, forcing motorists to take alternative routes through nearby villages before rejoining the road to continue their journey.

The former militants vowed to continue with the protest until their demands were met. They said they would continue to block the road until government  respond to their grievances.

A member of the Presidential Committee on Amnesty, Hon. Kingsley Kuku who spoke to Vanguard the last time the former militants barricaded the road said there was no provision by the government for the payment of the allowances being requested by the boys.

He, however, pointed out that the committee had since forwarded the demands of the former militants to the government and was waiting for respnse.

But instead of allowing such demand to thwart the post_amnesty programme, he opined that it was not too much on thepart of government to raise the amount for the 20,192 participants in the programme and  capture it under an appropriate heading to enable the former militants provide  for their family while they were away for the skill acquisition programme.
