The Benin Summit Group (BSG) has announced plans to convene a virtual town hall meeting for aspirants contesting Senate and House of Representatives seats across all political parties in Edo South Senatorial District.
The initiative, themed “Edo South Decides: Accountability, Capacity, and the Future of Representation,” is aimed at promoting issue-based political engagement, transparency, and informed decision-making among voters.
According to a statement by the group, the town hall will provide a non-partisan platform for aspirants to present their visions, articulate their legislative agendas, and demonstrate their understanding of the roles and responsibilities associated with elective offices.
The forum will also allow participants to respond to policy-driven questions from moderators and members of the public, with opportunities for citizens to engage through pre-submitted and selected live questions.
BSG noted that special emphasis would be placed on accountability, particularly for incumbents seeking re-election, who are expected to present verifiable records of their performance and contributions to the development of Edo South.
In addition to engaging aspirants, the group said the event would educate the public on the constitutional functions of Senators and members of the House of Representatives, helping to align citizens’ expectations with legislative responsibilities.
The town hall will feature a neutral moderator and structured engagement guidelines to ensure fairness and balance.
The leadership of BSG said the initiative reflects its commitment to promoting responsible leadership, civic awareness, and constructive engagement beyond partisan interests.
It described the programme as a significant step toward strengthening democratic culture and ensuring that aspiring representatives are accountable and responsive to the needs of the people.
Details of the event, including date, time, and participation guidelines, are expected to be announced soon.
The group called on all aspirants, stakeholders, and members of the public to participate actively in the civic engagement.
