The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has unveiled a new pastoral programme titled “You Are Not Alone,” aimed at supporting immigrants and refugees amid heightened deportation raids under the Trump administration.

In a statement announcing the initiative, the bishops reaffirmed the Catholic Church’s long-standing commitment to upholding human dignity and compassion for migrants facing persecution or hardship.

“Our Catholic faith teaches that every person is made in the image of God and deserves respect, dignity, and care,” the bishops declared. “While people have the right to build a future in their homeland, they also have the right to migrate when life at home becomes unsafe or unsustainable.”

The “You Are Not Alone” programme outlines a framework for parishes and Catholic faithful across the United States to stand in solidarity with affected families through advocacy, community outreach, and pastoral care.

According to the bishops, the initiative responds directly to the “growing fear and instability” caused by the recent surge in immigration enforcement and the looming threat of mass deportations. It seeks to offer migrants and their loved ones reassurance that “the Church stands with them, offering accompaniment during this difficult time.”

“You Are Not Alone” programme is more than just a statement of solidarity but a moral call to action that could redefine the Church’s engagement with social justice issues in the United States.

“As deportation crackdowns continue, the initiative seeks to remind both policymakers and the faithful that, in the words of the bishops, “faith demands not indifference, but accompaniment.”

The launch coincides with renewed calls from Pope Leo XIV, the first American-born pontiff, urging Catholic leaders to intensify efforts in protecting the vulnerable and promoting justice for immigrants.

Last month, Pope Leo condemned the Trump administration’s immigration measures, describing them as “inhuman” and inconsistent with the moral principles of compassion and mercy that define the Christian faith.

The Pope’s remarks and the bishops’ initiative mark a bold pastoral stance from the Catholic hierarchy, positioning the Church as a vocal advocate for humane migration policies amid an increasingly polarised national debate.
