A lawmaker representing the Obokun/Oriade federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Oluwole Oke, says the Osun State Government and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state are undermining his personality and political influence in the state.
In a video he shared on WhatsApp groups addressing his constituents, the lawmaker lamented that he is now seen as the enemy of the state government.
Oke said he has been a member of the PDP since 1998, and he has never defected even when some leaders of the party left. “I stayed behind, nurtured and financed the party to greatness,” he said.
Oke said he supported Governor Ademola Adeleke to become Osun West Senator in 2017 but regretted that the governor and the PDP in the state no longer value his contribution or political relevance.
“I supported my incumbent governor to become senator of our party. I offended so many people just because I wanted the party to capture power in the state.
“But today, what is the story? I’m the enemy of the government; I’m the enemy of the party.
“The purpose of nurturing this party is to enable my followers, my constituents, to also benefit from it, to become councillors, chairmen of councils, secretaries to the local government and all that. That’s the purpose of my endurance with the government.
“But what do I get in return? I have seen invaders who never knew how we started this process and are spewing all sorts of stories and unfortunately, the government of the state is believing them and that is the painful aspect of it.
“I want all of you to advise me, in a situation where you are not trusted, where your opinion does not count, where your advice is not taken into consideration, and where you are undermined, please advise me: what do you think I should do?” he asked.
Of late, Oke has criticised some of Adeleke’s actions, including the state government’s petition to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The lawmaker told the anti-graft agency to disregard the government’s petition against former Governor Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Osun State Government had petitioned the EFCC to investigate the immediate past governor and current Minister of Blue Economy, Oyetola, over the alleged misappropriation of a $20m World Bank health grant.
