…warns public against fraudulent claims

The Edo State Government has officially disclaimed reports circulating about the purported award of a 12-kilometer internal road construction contract in Esan Central Local Government Area, Irrua, to Midmac Construction Nig. Ltd., Abuja.

In a public disclaimer issued by the Ministry of Works, signed by Engr. Dr J. Obanor, the Functioning Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, the government firmly denied any involvement in the alleged contract, describing the claims as “false” and “fraudulent.”

The statement read: “The general public, relevant authorities, and stakeholders are hereby notified that the Edo State Government has not awarded the construction of 12km of internal roads in Esan Central Local Government Area, Irrua, Edo State, to Midmac Construction Nig. Ltd., Abuja, contrary to the false claims contained in a letter purportedly signed by Engr. Joseph Okhakhu.”

The Ministry went further to clear the name of Engr. Joseph Okhakhu, who was falsely linked to the document in question. The disclaimer stated: “We wish to state unequivocally that Engr. Joseph Okhakhu, a committed and reputable staff member of the Ministry, has no involvement whatsoever in this fraudulent act. Moreover, he is not authorized to issue such letters or documents.”

The Ministry emphasized that the correspondence did not originate from its office and condemned the impersonation, warning of legal consequences for those involved. “The Ministry strongly condemns this act of impersonation and deception, clearly intended to mislead the public and damage the Ministry’s reputation. Anyone found to be involved in such fraudulent activities will face the full weight of the law,” the disclaimer added.

For public awareness and protection, the Ministry advised citizens and stakeholders to verify any claims or inquiries regarding road construction contracts directly through official channels at the Edo State Ministry of Works.
