As Oluwaseun Abraham Adebisi is one of the current recipients of the UNMC BMB-funded training grant, which was recently awarded in July 2024, his remarkable journey in the field of biochemistry has come full circle.

Born and raised in Osun State, Nigeria, Adebisi’s interest in the role of antioxidants in combating diseases began at a young age. His passion for research and education has only grown stronger with time.

Adebisi’s academic prowess earned him the prestigious 2019 PTDF local scholarship, which paved the way for his research endeavors. He further solidified his expertise with a graduate assistantship from the IGPBS program of UNMC in 2022.

Adebisi’s research focuses on the role of antioxidants in addressing brain, liver, and kidney damage caused by exposure to harmful substances. His work has far-reaching implications for human health and disease prevention.

Since starting his Master’s degree at the University of Ibadan, Adebisi has been researching the role of antioxidants in cervical cancer. He later expanded his research to prostate cancer at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, USA, for his doctoral degree.

One of the highlights of Adebisi’s research is the establishment of animal models to study these cancers. These models are crucial for testing different antioxidants and proving their efficacy for possible clinical trials.

Adebisi’s research has led to groundbreaking discoveries, including the use of yoyo bitters to modulate oxidative stress and slow down the growth of cervical cancer. His work has the potential to revolutionize cancer treatment.

In addition to his research, Adebisi is passionate about teaching. Since joining the Department of Biochemistry at Osun State University, Osogbo in 2021, he has been actively involved in teaching undergraduate students.

Adebisi’s commitment to giving back to his community is evident in his volunteer work with “The Dove Haven Foundation,” a leading NGO in Nigeria. He served as the assistant head for resource mobilization between 2020 and 2022.

The NGO focuses on increasing awareness of cervical cancer by providing free cancer screening and participating in several outreach programs in Southwest Nigeria. Adebisi’s contributions have made a tangible impact on the lives of many.

Adebisi’s achievements are a testament to his hard work and dedication. Despite his humble beginnings, he has risen to become a leading figure in his field, inspiring countless others to follow in his footsteps.

As Adebisi continues to make strides in his research and education, his impact on the scientific community and beyond is undeniable. His work has the potential to change lives and shape the future of disease prevention.

In conclusion, Adebisi’s remarkable journey is a shining example of the power of passion, hard work, and dedication. His contributions to the field of biochemistry will undoubtedly leave a lasting legacy.
